Do not take my optimism for naivety, for this is a fundamentally realistic article. The idea of federalism as an ignored yet plausible solution for Lebanon has been brought forth in a recent article in the Daily Star. In it, the author explains how confessional federalism can bring about stability in Lebanon by enhancing the people’s representation and hindering the possibilities of deadlock within the central authority.
Such a solution is, to say the least, obscene. It is thus as a belated reaction to this proposition that this article attempts to point out the dangerousness and fatal drawbacks the federalist option entails if applied. The article will then shed some light on a possible alternative option that is in no way an illusion.(…)
